Proper cleansing for acne-prone skin is crucial.
Pick the right cleanser that doesn’t overdry your skin
- Using chemical exfoliants (salicylic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, or glycolic acid) are good but don’t overuse them. SUR uses plant-based enzymes for a mild exfoliation
- Avoid physical exfoliants (jojoba seeds) as they may be too harsh for your skin.
Wash your face twice a day (general rule)
- Don’t overwash your face
- Overdrying can cause breakouts worse
- Acne-prone skin is usually the result of hormones, genetics, and clogged pores, not from not washing your face enough
Remove all makeup and sunscreen every night
- Use micellar water or a makeup remover to take off makeup and sunscreen
- Use a cleanser after removing makeup and sunscreen
Use lukewarm water
- Hot water can strip the skin of natural oils or break down delicate tissue
- Warm water is best
Always use a new washcloth
- Clean washcloths, brushes or cleaning aids will help the spread of bacteria
- Change and clean pillowcases, towels, hats frequently
Gently pat dry skin
- Gently pat your skin dry with a towel
- Don't scrub or rub your skin dry, as this can irritate your skin
- Use a separate towel for face and body
