Green Tea for your skin
Green tea contains powerful antioxidants that protect your skin against sun damage, reduce redness, as well as improve hydration, thickness, and elasticity. Antioxidants protect and fight against free radicals in your body.
How does it work?
Free radicals are unstable molecules that form in the body during metabolism or by exposure to toxins in the environment such as smoke or ultraviolet light. Free radicals can break down our skin’s collagen and cause wrinkles, dark spots, fine lines and saggy skin.
The powerful compounds found in green tea are polyphenols, also called flavonoids, and are micronutrients that we get from plant-based foods. The flavonoid that helps skin is catechin and it works to improve the health of your skin in several ways.
Improves the look and feel of your skin
Study has shown that green tea may improve the moisture, roughness, thickness, and elasticity of your skin. (Study 3)
Protects from sun damage
Studies show that green tea can help protect your skin against sun damage and could reduce redness from sun exposure. (Study 1, Study 2)
Protects collagen in your skin
Studies show that polyphenols may also help protect collagen, the main protein in your skin. This may reduce and even partly reverse some signs of aging. (Study 4, Study 5, Study 6)
