We all want to have FUN and protect ourselves and those that we love.  

Tip #1: 

The UV light exposure is the strongest from 10 am-4 pm - even on a cloudy day. So cover-up. Sunscreen, hats, glasses, and shade.

What is sunburn? 

Sunburn is an inflammatory reaction of the skin from too much sun exposure. It’s basically a UV radiation burn that affects our skin tissue. 

What’s a suntan?

When you go into the sun, melanin, a pigment in our skin, helps to defend against the sun’s rays and will darken your unprotected sun-exposed skin. 


However, the danger of a sunburn can go beyond the short term discomforts - and cause lasting damage. Sunburn can cause skin aging and the major cause of various skin cancers.

Tip #3: 

You see it at the stores and all over the shelves. Synthetic or Chemical Sunscreens. New studies are showing that these sunscreens are absorbed into our skin and then into our bloodstream. 

More studies are needed to determine how toxic these chemicals are in our bodies. 

But why wait for more studies? Just avoid them. Hawaii has already banned two of these harmful sunscreens. Avoid especially for young children, pregnant women, breastfeeding moms, and immunocompromised individuals. 

Synthetic sunscreens also absorb the rays and turn them into heat in your skin. The heat may cause hyperpigmentation if it stresses your skin. Oxybenzone may be a hormone-active ingredient and cause hormonal skin darkening. 


Tip #4: 

A barrier or physical sunscreen is the safest sun protection product you can get. It’s like wearing an extra layer on top of your skin. The rays will bounce off.

  3. Don’t forget to wear hats, sunglasses and loose clothing. 
  4. Seek shade
