Summer is ending in a few weeks and colder weather is coming up. Get ready for fall with leveling up your skincare routine.
START NOW
The transition for your skincare from summer to fall should really get started in late summer.
Here are some quick tips to help you get ready and ensure your skin looks its best.
TRANSITION TIPS TO COLDER WEATHER
Tip #1 Increase the power of your moisturizers
Prepare for colder weather, with stronger moisturizers, such as heavier creams or oils. If you have very dry skin, use both a cream and an oil together - especially at night. Look for an oil that has a small chemical structure so they absorb into your skin and don't just lay on top. A great oil to look out for is Squalane.
Tip #2 Look for Hyaluronic Acid in your products
Many get dehydrated skin and don't know how to treat it. Basically your skin is thirsty and needs water. Hyaluronic Acid is a humectant and acts as a magnet for water. It will infuse into your skin and get absorbed into the skin cells and then pull water into the cells like a magnet. The result is your skin cell gets the water it needs and your wrinkles are less pronounced (plumping action).
Tip #3 Drink water
Drinking fluids is important for your skin. A good way to determine how much you should drink is to take your weight, divide it in half -- and that is how many ounces you should consume each day. During the colder months, try drink herbal teas as many have antioxidant power to help your body.
Tip #4 Moisturize your lips
Break out your most powerful lip conditioner and start to moisturize your lips around the clock. This will help prevent dry chapped lips when the weather shifts. Ingredients do matter, so look for natural healthy ingredients.
Tip #5 Use an Eye Creme
Adding in an eye creme now is key (if you aren't using one). The skin around your eye is the most delicate area on your face and using an eye cream will help with the transition to colder weather.
Tip #6 Don't over-exfoliate
Exfoliate only once a week or less, as exfoliating can dry out your skin. Also, be careful of products that can stimulate the exfoliating process - as Retinol (Vitamin A from meat sources).
Tip # 7 Continue to use sunscreen
If you are going to spend some time outside, using sunscreen is still important to protect your skin. Mineral-based sunscreen is the safest for your skin (zinc oxide).
Tip #8 Use a humidifier or vaporizer
With the cold weather come drier air, and a humidifier or vaporizer helps add in moisture into the air. It will help your skin as well as your throat, eye and nose.
